| Grease Comes To Boston! |
|
1st December 2010 Talented students from both Boston High School and Boston Grammar School took on ‘Grease’ for their annual school performance this year, running from 17th to 19th November at Boston High School. The story of ‘Grease’ follows the high school romance between ‘T-Bird’, Danny, and new girl, Sandy, played by John Bradley and Chloe Lister, and actors, dancers and singers have enjoyed performing a whole host of hit songs, such as ‘You’re The One That I Want’ and ‘Summer Nights’. Lead actress, Chloe Lister, was thrilled to take on the role of Sandy: “I’ve watched Grease since I was little and it was always something I wanted to do.” Following the auditions which were held soon after the summer holidays, rehearsals for the musical began in late September, taking place after-school and on some weekends, requiring dedication and commitment from the cast. Despite a fraught full day dress rehearsal on Tuesday 16th November, which Amy Whitby-Baker, co-director, described as ‘stressful but rewarding’, this dedication paid off and the show premiered without hiccups to local primary schools on Wednesday. Sam Leake, musical director, praised the hard work and enthusiasm of the many students and staff who supported this years’ production, from lighting and sound to set design and costume, adding that ‘working on Grease has been absolutely fantastic’. It seems the audience enjoyed it equally as the performances on Thursday and Friday were sold out. All proceeds from the tickets, refreshments stand and raffle tickets will go towards next year’s now highly anticipated show. Whilst no definite show has been decided upon for 2011, Sam Leake divulged that it will aim to include as many of the talented students from both schools as possible. By Jocelyn Murdoch
