Key Stage 4
Homework Guidance
The School believes that the setting of homework is a useful way of extending and deepening a pupils learning. You should expect your daughter to receive homework during the week.
Pupils will now be completing Controlled Assessment in lessons, instead of coursework at home for homework. This is a new technique for GCSE courses, which has resulted in student’s coursework being restricted to school hours only.
The subject teachers will set homework where appropriate for their subject. As the pupils are studying for GCSE exams, they will be expected to carry out research and consolidation of notes at home after their lessons. Subjects will set one formal homework a week for each subject which can amount to one hour a week per subject.
We want to encourage our students to benefit highly from the homework set from subjects; this is why we are introducing a new homework after school detention system which will deter students away from the idea that homework does not need to be completed on time. However, where there is a genuine issue resulting in non-completion of Homework a letter, explaining the issue, should be sent to the subject teacher by parents / carers and a new deadline will be set by the teacher.
With the level of work needed to achieve highly at GCSE, we would advise parents / carers that students are always expected to carry out research and consolidation of notes at home after their lessons. This does mean that there is always something to be doing at home!
