Key Stage 3 Homework Guidance

Homework is set at KS3 to complement and develop the work done in school. The aim is to deepen and extend understanding and to encourage our students to become confident, independent learners with a strong work ethic and the ability to think for themselves.

Year 7 Homework lasting about fifteen minutes per subject may be set during lessons on the days indicated.
Year 8 Homework lasting about twenty minutes per subject may be set during lessons on the days indicated.
Year 9 Homework lasting about one hour per subject may be set during lessons on the days indicated.

However, work may be completed on other evenings or at weekends as long as deadlines are met. Where there is a genuine issue resulting in non-completion of Homework a letter, explaining the issue, should be sent to the subject teacher by parents / carers.

Key Stage 4 Homework Guidance

The School believes that the setting of homework is a useful way of extending and deepening our students’ learning. You should expect your daughter to receive homework during the week.

All teachers will set a deadline for homework to be completed by. The expectation is that these deadlines are met by students. We want to encourage our students to benefit from the homework set in their GCSE subjects; this is why we have a homework after school detention system which will deter students from the idea that homework does not need to be completed on time. However, where there is a genuine issue resulting in non-completion of Homework a letter, explaining the issue, should be sent to the subject teacher by parents / carers and a new deadline will be set by the teacher.

With the level of work needed to achieve highly at GCSE, we would advise parents / carers that students are always expected to carry out research and consolidation of notes at home after their lessons. This does mean that there is always something to be doing at home.
